FORCE Annual General Meeting
Tuesday, June 15, 2010
The battle with St Marys Cement continues. Even with the Provincial Government taking a position on the proposed Flamborough Quarry through a Ministerial Zoning Order (MZO) freezing the current zoning on the proposed quarry site, St Marys Cement continues to pursue its quarry development. Just recently it applied for a Permit To Take Water in support of further groundwater testing on the proposed site. This follows an application to have the MZO revoked and a request that the application be referred to the Ontario Municipal Board (OMB). Even with the Province taking a supportive position, an OMB hearing will be in our future.
We have made arrangements to have Chris Barnett of Davis LLP, a member of our Community Legal Team, join us at our AGM. Chris will be sharing his perspective on the significance of the recent Provincial Municipal Zoning Order decision, as well as outlining why it is important that we keep up our efforts at this critical phase in our opposition.
Our special guest, Monte Hummel, President Emeritus of the World Wildlife Fund Canada will be explaining the importance of local battles such as ours in terms of the impact they can have on a provincial and national scale.
Together we are moving forward with our opposition. Come learn more about this next phase in our fight.
