Results of FORCE 2011 Provincial Election Candidates Survey regarding the proposed Flamborough Quarry

Provincial elections are an important time for our Communities as we collectively consider issues of importance to us, debate ideas and evaluate those willing to make the commitment to serve on our behalf. While there are many important issues facing our province and our Communities, one important local issue is the proposal for a new Greenfield aggregate development in northeast Flamborough by St Marys Cement. This proposed development has the potential to significantly impact residents, farms, businesses, schools, and communities in the City of Hamilton and the Region of Halton.

Friends of Rural Communities and the Environment (FORCE) has conducted a candidate survey in order to inform voters about the candidates’ positions on this issue as one input into our decisions on how to vote. The survey questions covered the candidate’s personal view and their party’s position on the proposed Flamborough Quarry and on the current provincial freeze blocking the development. The candidates were also given the opportunity to provide their own comments. Below is a summary of the candidates’ positions by riding for those candidates who responded by the survey deadline. The full survey responses, the questions asked and the candidates comments can be read here. We encourage you to continue to access the Ontario Votes section on the FORCE website as updates will be provided if and when other candidates respond.
