Community Call to Action

St Marys Cement Public Information Meeting April 16, 2008

Despite the science that identifies the potential for harm to our drinking water and provincially significant wetlands, and

Despite the continued, and articulate objections from our communities, and

Despite the fact that Hamilton City Council has passed a motion outlining their concerns regarding potential adverse impacts on the Carlisle groundwater-based municipal drinking water system

St Marys Cement intends to hold a Public Information Meeting to discuss their Permit To Take Water (PTTW) application.

The Ministry of the Environment has refrained from granting a permit to take water since the initial application in the fall of 2006 .That's almost 18 months of cautious review!

We need all citizens to reinforce the Ministry of the Environment's caution.

During the proposed tests St Marys Cement plans to inject water that has been circulated above ground directly into the production zones of our drinking water aquifer bypassing the natural filtration processes that have filtered our water for centuries. Our water will be at risk.

Wednesday April 16 at 7:30 pm
Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Elementary School
1624 Centre Road Carlisle, Ontario

Presentations include representatives from St Marys Cement, the Ministry of the Environment (MOE), the City of Hamilton, and other invited stakeholders. FORCE will be presenting on behalf of our communities.

Following the presentations will be a question and answer period.

Please plan on attending!
