Update #1

We're in the fight of our lives... and holding our own very well!

On April 6, 2006 our communities will receive an update on the Lowndes Holdings Corp. quarry application from the City of Hamilton Planning Department, and representatives from Lowndes Holding Corp.

We'd like you to be there! For almost two years now, we have been protesting this application that proposes to develop, on the 11th concession of Flamborough, the eighth largest quarry in Canada.

The application situates the proposed quarry on lands that environmentalists describe as being unique in southern Ontario for their combination of natural features. The quarry, which would in fact be an open pit industrial mine, would operate up to 40 metres below the water table, waste up to 3.6 million gallons of water a day, and bring 1140 gravel truck trips through our communities on peak days. That is outrageous!

In the past two years, we have learned much about social activism, and even more about quarries. Today we are a community that is concerned, informed and leading a campaign against an aggregates developer who is both persistent and determined. We promised that our anger would turn to resolve, and our resolve into action, and that is exactly what has happened.

It's all possible because our communities are united in their objection to this development. Come to this meeting and object in person!

We believe that Together we will Succeed!
