Update #4
We have our case, and it is strong.
Dry wells & ..Drained wetlands & Polluted watersheds. These features could be the legacy of constructing a quarry 40 metres below the established water table. And they are the consequences we began to describe as early as June 2004.Almost two years later, we are reading reports from peer review experts that identify these same outcomes. Yet Lowndes Holdings Corp. persists in its application, despite the fact that their hydrogeology report is more like a sieve - it doesn't hold water.
The health and environmental risks of extracting the aquifer rock and pumping up to 3.6 million gallons of water each day are worrisome. Quarries are not a benign rural activity. Their effects persist for generations.
Let the City of Hamilton Planning Department know your concerns about protecting our water source. Plan to attend the Open House and Information Meeting about the Lowndes Holdings Corp. Quarry Application on Thursday April 6th, 2006. Representatives from Lowndes Holdings Corp., as well as the FORCE chairperson have been invited to speak.
Come out and express your concerns!
