Update #2

We need you to add your voice!

On Thursday November 29th, 2007 St Marys Cement CBM is holding a second Public Information Centre Meeting regarding their ongoing Haul Route Study for the proposed Flamborough Quarry. The meeting will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Carlisle Golf and Country Club, a presentation is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Whether you come early or late, we suggest you try to attend the presentation at 7:00 p.m.

We'd like you to be there! Numbers speak volumes!

The only estimates that we have on the potential number of trucks involved come from the September 2004 Official Plan and Zoning By-Law change application documents. They indicate that on peak days there could be up to 2 truck movements in or out of our communities per minute. The traffic studies presented thus far identify no controls for ensuring that independent haulers use any such preferred routes and proposes no measures to restrict truck movements from using alternate routes. What will keep trucks from taking the shortest or fastest routes, potentially travelling past our schools and community centres? St Mary's response to questions about haul route compliancy is to suggest that we as citizens are expected to monitor and report all violations to them. Come to the meeting tell and St Marys how you feel about being responsible for managing their business for them.
